Thomas Jefferson carefully hand-copied the following passage into his personal journal from renown 18th century criminologist, Cesare Beccaria, On Crimes and Punishment, 87-88 (Henry Palolucci trans., 1964. 1764). Thomas Jefferson knew because he-himself studied the previous failed attempts at government. He understood actual history, the nature of God, His laws and the nature of man. That happens to be way more than what most understand today.

Jefferson really knew his stuff.

The state of Wisconsin has gone an entire deer hunting season without someone getting killed. That's great. There were over 600,000 hunters.

Allow me to restate that number. Over the last two months, the eighth largest army in the world - more men under arms than Iran; more than France and Germany combined - deployed to the woods of a single American state to help keep the deer menace at bay.

But that pales in comparison to the 750,000 who are in the woods of Pennsylvania this week. Michigan's 700,000 hunters have now returned home. Toss in a quarter million hunters in West Virginia, and it is literally the case that the hunters of those four states alone would comprise the largest army in the world.

The point? America will forever be safe from foreign invasion with that kind of home-grown firepower. All we need is for the government to leave our Right To Bear Arms alone!!

Hunting -- it's not just a way to fill the freezer. It's a matter of national security.

NASA's Kepler mission confirmed the discovery of its first rocky planet, named Kepler-10b. Measuring 1.4 times the size of Earth, it is the smallest planet ever discovered outside our solar system.

The discovery of this so-called exoplanet is based on more than eight months of data collected by the spacecraft from May 2009 to early January 2010.

"All of Kepler's best capabilities have converged to yield the first solid evidence of a rocky planet orbiting a star other than our sun," said Natalie Batalha, Kepler's deputy science team lead at NASA's Ames Research Center in Moffett Field, Calif., and primary author of a paper on the discovery accepted by the Astrophysical Journal. Christmas came a day early for Blue and Gold Stars in Pennsylvania. Dozens of Blue and Gold Star parents, as well as O.I.F./ O.E.F. veterans received a knock on the door from groups of grateful veterans. This was done with manpower and material support provided by Second Brigade Motorcycle Club, who have stood as Eagles since our inception on St Patrick's Day 2007 and proved their resolve to veterans causes again on Christmas Eve 2010.

We brought complete Christmas dinners, with turkey and all the trimmings to men and women who could not have been more appreciative. Bottles of vintage champagne were salvaged last summer from a shipwreck that happened near Finland and Sweden between 1832 and 1844. Close to 50 sealed bottles are expected to sell for about $68,000 each. The champagne will be tasted, then recorked, then sold. The current record price for a bottle of champagne is probably $21,200 for a 1928 Krug.

A Senate resolution designates Dec. 18 as a day to honor and recognize the contributions of the members of the Gold Star Wives of America Inc.

The group, with about 10,000 members, provides service, support and friendship to the widows and widowers of military personnel who died on active duty or as the result of a service-connected cause.

Americans across the United States are holding ceremonies Tuesday to commemorate the 69th anniversary of the Japanese attack on the U.S. Naval base at Pearl Harbor in Hawaii.

USS Arizona Memorial

Hundreds of people are estimated to be gathered at Pearl Harbor, where a new visitor's center is to open at the scene of the attack, near the site where the battleship Arizona sank.
On December 7, 1941, Japanese aircraft attacked the base just before 8 a.m., Hawaii time. The attack killed more than 2,400 Americans, sank five battleships and drew the United States into World War II.

As you all know, our mission is to support the troops and veterans. That's a pretty broad mission, and this little story may go a little outside its boundaries a bit, but I think it should be told. After all, it IS Christmas, and nothing outside of family and friends and home could be more important to our military, past and present, than the freedom to observe that holiday without worrying about "offending" someone.

Southlake, TX, is near Ft. Worth, and, as you will see, is part of heartland America. Certainly one would not expect a community bank to object to a Christmas tree being erected in its lobby at no cost whatsoever, courtesy of a public-spirited businessman! Well, as it turns out, after a bit of hue and cry from the public, Chase Bank headquarters reversed itself and told Antonio Morales, the businessman, that it would allow him to erect the tree, after all. Too late; Mr. Morales is donating that particular tree to another public institution, and Chase Bank is looking pretty stupid.

Talk about political correctness run amok--this takes the cake. Let Chase Bank headquarters know how you feel! Here's their address and phone number:

The first manufactured Apple computer, an important historic relic, sold Nov. 23, 2010, at a Christie's London auction for $213,600 (a record price for a personal computer sold at auction, according to Christie's). It was made in 1976 and sold then for $666.66 (about $2,600 in today's inflated dollars). It did not have a case, power supply, keyboard, or monitor, but it did have an assembled motherboard. Others at the time were self-assembly kits.

The Apple-1 motherboard, No. 82, cassette board connector, keyboard interface, heatsink, and three capacitors are in the original shipping box with a letter signed by Steve Jobs. It only had 8K bytes of RAM.

Veterans Day: This week, we celebrated Veterans Day. For some, Veterans Day represents a day off from work. For others, it’s not even a holiday…it’s just another weekday. And for yet others, the day recalls a passing awareness of significance, but not much beyond that.

But for the true American patriots among us, the day evokes a very deep and personal reverence. It combines elements of pride and sadness, and—always—respect. It is a sacred day, set aside to remember service, honor, bravery, duty, and sacrifice for the greater good. It is a day to remember those who served and are serving, so that we may enjoy the life and the freedom we have today.

Various articles of personal adornment decorated with plaques of ceramic ware made by Josiah Wedgwood & Sons Ltd. Such articles (including finger rings, medallions, brooches, pendants, buckles, clasps, earrings) were often made by Josiah Wedgwood (1730-95) of jasper or black basalted earthenware, sometimes as a cameo or intaglio set in a metal mount.

The mounts were of gold, silver or marcasite, or of cut steel frequently made by Matthew Boulton of Birmingham, c. 1790.

The Rubik's Cube is a 3-D mechanical puzzle invented in 1974 by Hungarian sculptor and professor of architecture Ernő Rubik. Originally called the "Magic Cube", the puzzle was licensed by Rubik to be sold by Ideal Toys in 1980 and won the German Game of the Year special award for Best Puzzle that year. As of January 2009, 350 million cubes have sold worldwide making it the world's top-selling puzzle game. It is widely considered to be the world's best-selling toy.

In a classic Rubik's Cube, each of the six faces is covered by 9 stickers, among six solid colours (traditionally white, red, blue, orange, green, and yellow). A pivot mechanism enables each face to turn independently, thus mixing up the colours. For the puzzle to be solved, each face must be a solid colour. Similar puzzles have now been produced with various numbers of stickers, not all of them by Rubik. The original 3×3×3 version celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2005.

Columbus, Christopher (1451-1506), Italian Spanish navigator who sailed west across the Atlantic Ocean in search of a route to Asia but achieved fame by making landfall in the Americas instead.
On October 12, 1492, two worlds unknown to each other met for the first time on a small island in the Caribbean Sea . While on a voyage for Spain in search of a direct sea route from Europe to Asia, Christopher Columbus unintentionally discovered the Americas. However, in four separate voyages to the Caribbean from 1492 to 1504, he remained convinced that he had found the lands that Marco Polo reached in his overland travels to China at the end of the 13th century. To Columbus it was only a matter of time before a passage was found through the Caribbean islands to the fabled cities of Asia.

The recent discovery of Gliese 581g, an alien planet in the habitable zone of another star, has been an exciting development for scientists probing the galaxy for signs of extraterrestrial life. At least one claim of a possible signal from the planet has already surfaced – and been met with harsh skepticism among the science community.

Following the Sept. 29 announcement of the discovery of Gliese 581g, astronomer Ragbir Bhathal, a scientist at the University of Western Sydney, claimed to have detected a suspicious pulse of light nearly two years ago, that came from the same area of the galaxy as the location of Gliese 581g, according to the U.K.'s Daily Mail online. Bhathal is a member of the Australian chapter of SETI, a non-profit scientific organization that is dedicated to research, exploration and education in the field of astrobiology.

Dealers say buyers find it a good "hard asset" investment since gold has become so expensive and stocks and bonds so uncertain. Antique Treasure Found in Cupboard!!

Check every cupboard when you're moving, selling a house, or settling an estate. Last year an English auctioneer was asked to look over items in a house whose owner was moving to a nursing home. In the kitchen cupboards, he found a pair of rare English porcelain sauceboats. They were slightly damaged and stained pieces of Chelsea porcelain marked with the early blue triangle mark used from 1745 to 1749. The pair sold for almost $79,000.

We must also acknowledge the sacrifice of over 6000 coalition troops, 5696 of which were American soldiers, who have died to protect our freedom in Iraq and Afghanistan along with so many more injured. We owe these brave men and women everything.

The events of 9/11 remind us of just how fragile and precious life is. It also serves as a reminder of the fragility of the freedoms we take for granted. It is difficult for most Americans to understand the culture of evil prevalent in the dark hearts of terrorists who place no value on innocent lives. We must, however, understand that this evil exists, leaving us the choice to fight or surrender to the inevitability of another attack.

Most of us remember exactly where we were and what we were doing the moment we saw the first news reports on the attack. I was in the middle of my 48 hour firefighter shift. Sometime around 5:30am, PST, a fellow firefighter knocked on the door of my room shouting for me to come see what was happening. News reporters were scrambling to build a story of what happened as the first tower burned. The horrific feeling inside me as the second plane hit the adjoining tower is still burned into my memory. America was under attack.

There was no context to place the horrific events we witnessed that day. When the first tower collapsed, I knew that hundreds of firefighters and emergency workers were in the process of making their way up the stairways in an attempt to save those trapped above the flames. As the buildings crumbled, I knew in that instant that those they hoped to save had perished along with those who were trying to save them.

For a brief time following the attack, America came together in a way I have not seen in my life. The acts of bravery and kindness freely given by so many broke though political and social divides. We were a nation under attack and suddenly helping each other came easy. Sadly, this bond has faded as we move further away from the attack. Today, let us remember how important our neighbors and communities became that day.

Let us also remember these events in November when we have a chance to remove the apologists and those politicians who forget that America is a sovereign nation, not a socialist regime. As voters, it is up to us to remind our elected officials just who they work for and that they can and will be replaced if they ever forget.

May we all take a moment of silence this day to remember the lives lost and the sacrifice of those placing themselves in harm’s way to make sure it does not happen again.

Agate effects were produced by differentcolored clays, and cream-colored earthenware was colored on the surface and glazed to represent porphyry, granite, Egyptian pebble, etc.

A number of vases and bulb and flower-pots were made in these effects and in terra-cotta, likewise a few lamps and candelabra. A white porcelain biscuit, with smooth and wax-like surface, was also made, but only a few pieces of it are in existence. Some enameled ware was also turned out, but this is neither as distinctive nor as beautiful as the painted basalt.

The subject of cameos, medallions, etc., deserves a paragraph to itself. Some of Wedgwood's most decorative and most minutely perfect work was done in this class of pottery. At first these were in cream colored relief, with the ground stained. Then medallions, miniature portraits, intaglios, medals, etc., were made in black basalt. A few of these were flat, with a Classic figure painted in encaustic, but most of them were in black bas-relief. The invention of the jasper body enabled Wedgwood to produce white cameo reliefs on a colored ground in beautiful combinations. The relief was molded separately and so carefully applied that these cameos are often flawless under a magnify inb glass. Classic figures were used, and also portraits of royalties and other personages. There were several classes of these portrait cameos, some in basalt and others in jasper-chiefly blue and white. Medallion portraits were often set in silver and ranged from ring size to three inches in diameter. The commonest size was 2 x 1 1/4 inches, in oval form. The Classic medallions were also made in small sizes for jewels, and in larger sizes for framing or for mounting on furniture or mantels. Plaques were made for this purpose in sizes ranging from 9 x 6 inches to 27 1/2, x 81/2 inches.

Not often will words published in a newspaper actually change the course of history, but that is exactly what happened in 1870 and 1871, when William C. Church, Editor of the Army and Navy Journal, published a series of editorials about the need for better rifle marksmanship to support national defense.

Those editorials and subsequent Manual for Rifle practice written by George W. Wingate inspired a group of National Guard officers to realize the dire need for Americans to improve their marksmanship. In November 1871, these men created history with the formation of one of America's finest, most productive and most necessary organizations--The National Rifle Association.

In their vision, America found the strength needed to prevail in wars our country would fight in the years to follow.

And, in the NRA, American gun owners found the strength to prevail in the war we still fight today, a war against enemies of freedom within our own shores who would strip us of our Constitutional Right to Keep and Bear Arms.

A United States Marine was taking some college courses
between assignments. He had completed 20 missions in Iraq
and Afghanistan . One of the courses had a professor who
was an avowed atheist, and a member of the ACLU.

One day the professor shocked the class when he came in.
He looked to the ceiling and flatly stated, "GOD, if you are real, then
I want you to knock me off this platform... I'll give you exactly 15 min."
The lecture room fell silent. You could hear a pin drop. Ten minutes
went by and the professor proclaimed, "Here I am GOD, I'm still waiting."

It got down to the last couple of minutes when the Marine got
out of his chair, went up to the professor, and cold-cocked him;
knocking him off the platform. The professor was out cold.

The Marine went back to his seat and sat there, silently.
The other students were shocked and stunned, and sat there
looking on in silence. The professor eventually came to,
noticeably shaken, looked at the Marine and asked,
"What in the world is the matter with you? Why did you do that?"

The Marine calmly replied,
"GOD was too busy today protecting America's
soldiers who are protecting your right to say stupid
stuff and act like an idiot. So He sent me."

How Big is Your Carbon Footprint?

How big is your carbon footprint when you use CFL bulbs instead of standard incacndescent bulbs and your house burns down ???

Below is a picture of a CFL light bulb from a friend's bathroom. She turned it on the other day and then smelled smoke after a few minutes. Four inch flames were spewing out of the side of the ballast like a blow torch! She immediately turned off the lights. But I'm sure it would have caused a fire if she was not right there. Imagine if the kids had left the lights on as usual when they were not in the room.

She took the bulb to the Fire Department to report the incident. The Fireman wasn't at all surprised and said that it was not an uncommon occurrence. Apparently, sometimes when the bulb burns out there is a chance that the ballast can start a fire. He told her that the Fire Marshall had issued reports about the dangers of these bulbs. Upon doing some Internet research, it seems that bulbs made by “Globe” in China seem to have the lion’s share of problems. Lots of fires have been blamed on misuse of CFL bulbs, like using them in recessed lighting, pot lights, dimmers or in track lighting. Hers was installed in a normal light socket.

Vintage Turquoise items frequently come up for sale online. Many of the good, old pieces were sold to tourists from the east in the 1920's & 30's. Navajo and other indian jewelry was all part of the Fred Harvey & Santa Fe railroad experience, which we will discuss in later articles.

As a result estate buyers in the east, who may know nothing about turquoise indian jewelry, will list it for sale very cheaply. However, it can be very hard to tell old, crude pieces from new, shoddy work; especially if all you have to go on is a few pictures.

When my sisters, brother and I were kids in the 1960s, my mother fed us a constant diet of comic books to encourage us to read. She would sneak in some of those Classics Illustrated adaptations of literary classics along with Richie Rich and Archie and Jughead. It worked, and we all became avid readers.

Until I read John Wall's blog post today, I really hadn't thought about much about comic books being published digitally. As John writes, yes, there's an app for that: "last Wednesday was the first time that a comic I was going to buy in the store was also available via the Comixology Application for iPad. Instead of driving to the local shop to buy it, I just clicked and had it instantly."

There's No Such Thing As a Used Book

The Bottom Line Buy used books! The brain you save may be your own.

When you think about it, there really is no such thing as a used book. Not in the sense we as consumers think of used, anyway. Consider my whim, if you will. Most people, if given the choice, prefer new cars to used cars. Cars, however, are not books. Ever tried to read a car? You just can't do it. Cars have a rather finite lifetime, for the most part. The more that they’re driven, the more likely they are to require repairs, or to become unusable.

Books, on the other hand, are much more forgiving. Oh sure, they may become a little dog eared, and the spine may have a crease. Maybe somebody spilled a little beer on a few pages (would I do that?). But as long as a book is complete and you can read it, it’s just as good on the 42nd reading as it was on the first.

And there’s just something about the wonderful, musty, heady smell of an old paperback that really makes you feel alive. It’s really something to stop and savor, I think.

Used Books vs. New Books
So, of course you should buy used books, instead of new ones anyway. You can save a lot of money doing so, too. Used books are often easy to find on Ebay, although shipping costs mean that you usually have to buy them in lots in order to realize any significant savings.

Flea markets are a great place to buy used books. They can often be purchased very cheaply here, although you usually have to go with what you can find. If you’re looking for a particular book, your local used book store is a great place to go. They usually have a great selection, and you can even trade in “old” used books towards the purchase of “new” used books.

Used Books vs. Library Books
Which brings us to a question: should you buy used books instead of going to the library? That all depends on your reading habits. How long do you take to read a book? Can you read it before it’s due to be returned? I almost always can.

Unfortunately, I’m one of the worst people in the world when it comes to taking things back on time. I’ve pretty much stopped renting movies, because by the time I add up my late fees it’s usually cheaper just to buy the DVD outright. Same goes for library books.

But I will confess that I have a personality quirk about books. If I’ve read a book, and enjoyed it, I want to own a copy. I don’t know why. Maybe it’s because I like to loan them out to friends. Maybe it’s because it’s nice to have them to refer back to. Or maybe I think I’ll re-read them some day. Whatever the reason, I like to hang on to my books, and buying used books gives me the flexibility to do just that.

The Beautiful Pottery Of Wedgwood

The jasper ware was Wedgwood's own invention. It received his closest personal attention, and some of his finest pieces were made in it. It is best described in his own words as "a white porcelain bisque of exquisite beauty and delicacy, possessing the quality of receiving color throughout its whole substance. This renders it particularly fit for cameos, portraits, and all subjects in bas-relief, as the ground may be made of any color throughout and the raised figures in pure white." It included in its composition barium, clay, and finely ground flint, and in its natural color was a peculiar dense, opaque white, varying from chalk-white to ivory.

It is hard to say whether the chief charm of jasper-ware lies in its color, its form, or the beauty and perfection of the ornamentation. Certainly the colorings are superb. Many colors were employedmostly delicate tints-the light blue perhaps being the most popular and best known. There were at least five tones and hues of blue derived from cobalt, six tones of green, three tones of red, from orange to terra cotta, lilac, rose, plum, chocolate, buff, brown, canary-yellow, black, and four distinct whites. White was usually employed in relief on one of these colors, and sometimes with a combination of two other colors. Occasionally two colors were employed without white, such as olive-green on buff.

There were two ways of coloring the Jasper-coloring throughout and coloring simply the surface by dipping. The latter method was invented in 1777 and made possible several new effects. The majority of the ware, however, is colored throughout.

Previous to 1781 the jasper-ware had been used almost exclusively for plaques and cameos. Then Wedgwood turned his attention to vases, adapting the forms largely from the antique. They were made in various sizes, chiefly in one color with white reliefs. Many were ornamented in Classic figures by Flaxman. To these jasper vases Wedgwood owes much of his reputation as a consummate artist and craftsman.

The well known incident of the Portland vase may be worthy of mention at this point. In 1787 Wedgwood made fifty copies of the famous antique Barberini vase, owned by the Duke of Portland. This vase was a wonderful example of the highest type of Classic art, and Wedgwood's copies nearly surpassed the original. They were made in black and blue, with white reliefs. It is said that about twenty of the original fifty copies are extant in museums and private collections, chiefly in England, but the authenticity of some of them is disputed.

After 1780 many articles were made in jasperware: tea and coffee sets, including cups and saucers, bowls and sugar basins, tea and coffee pots, cream pitchers and trays; plaques, medallions, and cameos; scent-bottles, match-pots, a few pipe-bowls and hookahs, candlesticks, pedestals for statuettes and busts, pots for growing bulbs and flowering plants, and a remarkable set of chessmen designed by Flaxman in 1785. A Lock of Napoleon's Hair Sells at Auction, From Kovel's Komments

A lock of Napoleon's hair sold on July 1 for $13,100 (U.S. dollars) at Art+Object, a New Zealand auction house. The hair had been cut from Napoleon's head after he died in 1821. Denzil Ibbetson, a British officer on St. Helena during Napoleon's exile there, kept the hair and other Napoleon memorabilia. Everything remained in his New Zealand family until this sale. We searched for a value based on earlier sales and found that in 1915 a different lock of Napoleon's hair sold for $107.50.

My Grandfather was a glider infantryman in WWII, an advisor in Korea, and lost one of his sons, my uncle Gary Edwards, in Vietnam. I worked in his auto repair station during high school and he flew his flag in front daily. One day while I was sweeping the oil dry out of the bays it began to sprinkle rain. He told me to go get the flag and I said "gimme a second." He said, "It is raining, go get the flag NOW." Well I popped off my mouth about how he should cool it, it isn't going to melt or some such typical teenage comment.

My grandfather is the toughest man I've ever met. He explained once that he thought basic training was some sort of country club during WWII, because he was used to hard work anyway, and at home he didn't have indoor toilets or hot running water! And when I said whatever it was that I said to him, he turned deep crimson and I thought, "God save me, he's going to kill me for talking back." Instead tears welled up in his eyes and he squeaked out "You don't understand what this family has paid for the right to fly that flag." Then he turned his back on me and went out and got the flag. I just stood there feeling like the smallest person to ever live. Those words cut me so deep. I wish the entire country could have heard them.

The Manufacture of Wedgwood Basalt

In 1767 Wedgwood turned his attention to the manufacture of black basalt or Egyptian black ware. This had already been made in a crude form in Staffordshire, but Wedgwood brought it to a high degree of perfection. It is so hard that it will strike fire with steel, and yet is smooth and velvety in appearance and to the touch. Bits of it are still used as touchstones by jewelers. In texture it is perfect, fine in grain and rich in its soft blackness probably the most solid pottery ever produced. The real Wedgwood basalt never shows waviness or crazing. It proved to be a splendid ware, not only in plain black, as in most of the tea-sets, but for seals, intaglios, busts, statuettes, plaques, medallions, and as a background for bas-reliefs and encaustic painting.

Some of the basalt tea and coffee sets were painted in colors, but these are not generally as fine as the plain black ones. The latter were usually decorated with raised work in flutings, basket effects, and relief figures, generally Classic in form. This relief work is perfect in its minutest details, even under a magnifying glass. The edges of the raised figures were often slightly undercut to give an absolutely sharp relief.

The finest basalt, however, is found in the vases. The first basalt vases were made in 1768. Up to 1780 they were rather simply decorated. At first they were plain, smooth black. In 1769 festoons in white were applied occasionally. From 1769 to 1786 the ornamentation consisted chiefly in black relief flutings, strap work, borders, festoons, Classic figures, etc., with handles in the form of masks, dolphins, goats' heads, satyrs, etc.

It is interesting to note the Classic forms and motifs used in pottery of this period, in that this was the age of Classic decorations in architecture and furniture, generally known as the Adam period, which ran from 1760 to 1790. Rams' heads and feet, and satyrs, were frequently, almost generally, used as ornaments on furniture at this period.

This class of vases formed a considerable proportion of the output of Wedgwood & Bentley. About 1776 more elaborate and beautiful figures in basrelief were applied, many of them of rare Classic charm, like Flaxman's "Dancing Hours." The surface was less highly polished during this later period, and these vases are considered superior even to the more striking jasper-ware by many connoisseurs. From 1780 to 1795 painted basalt vases were made in imitation of antique Greek and Etruscan painted vases and other vessels.

In basalt were also made ewers for water and wine, mugs, inkstands, salt-cellars, flower pots, and other practical articles, as well as medallions, plaques, and portrait cameos. These last will be considered more at length later.

Tyler, TX: The residents of an apartment complex say their typically safe neighborhood had fallen victim to a rash of break ins. Crime reached its zenith when someone broke into an apartment occupied by a woman and her children. The woman retreated to her bedroom with the children, locked the door and armed herself with a handgun. According to police, when the suspect approached the bedroom door, the woman fired a single shot. The suspect was found outside the complex suffering from a gunshot wound. He was placed under armed guard at the hospital.

Dunn, N.C.: A turkey farmer was driving his tractor down the road for refueling when he noticed a strange car, its trunk open, parked in his garage. Parking his tractor in front of the car, he reached into his pickup for a .22 caliber rifle. Police say that's when a man kicked open the farmer's back door and stepped outside with his arms full of electronics and money. The farmer yelled at him and when he saw the gun, he set the stuff down and ran back into the house. The suspect slipped on the linoleum inside the home and the farmer held him at gunpoint for police. Police are investigating the suspect's involvement in several other break ins.

Athens, AL: A nurse was home with her sick children when a man knocked on the door. She had never seen him before, so she quieted the children and did not answer. Undeterred, the man circled the house and tried to kick in the kitchen door, prompting the nurse to hide her children in a closet and telling them to call 911. She retrieved a .38 caliber revolver, peered down the hall and saw the burglar standing in the living room. She came at him and started firing; and the burglar fled the scene. Speaking to a reporter, the nurse urged other women to consider gun ownership and to take firearm training classes.
