A Bit of Wedgwood History
Thousands of Dollars Worth of Wedgwood Smashed by Disgruntled Employee
Temperamental artists can be dangerous. Daisy Makig-Jones, the artist and designer who made Fairyland Luster for Wedgwood, was upset when she was fired in 1931. She went into her studio and smashed every piece of her work. A single piece of her surviving work could auction for up to $55,000 today.

HUNTSVILLE HAMFEST 2007 HUNTSVILLE, AL
Huntsville Hamfest - August 18 & 19, 2007
In 2007 we will host the ARRL National Convention
We will keep details of the 2006 Hamfest on the site to give you an idea of the scope of our hamfest. As plans are solidified for the 2007 version, the site will be updated.
http://www.hamfest.org/index.htm
On the third full weekend in August, the place to be for hams in the Southeastern U. S. is Huntsville, Alabama's Von Braun Center
700 Monroe Street SW. The site of one of the best hamfests in the USA.
Since the first Huntsville Hamfest in 1981, we have grown to the point where the Amateur Radio manufacturers and dealers consider us to be one of the few remaining major hamfests in the country. Our reputation among hams visiting the hamfest from all over the country bears out the success of our policy of going the extra mile to produce a "Friendly Family Hamfest."
SEE YOU IN HUNTSVILLE NEXT YEAR!

TIME SHARING 2006
We are back from a 3-month sojourn across the great country of the USA. During this time, we stayed at several timeshares along the way; and here is our review of these vacation resorts:
PALACE VIEW BY SPINNAKER
Branson, MO
This is a very nice family-oriented vacation resort RCI Gold Crown, in one of the best family desitations--Branson, MO. We stayed a week in a 2 bedroom lockout and invited my two sisters to join us. The guest bedroom suite had a king bed, pull-out sofa, bath and mini-kitchen, with washer/dryer, and small dining and living area. The master suite had a king bed, pull-out sofa, spa bath and shower, full kitchen, large dining and living area, with a large patio, and central heating and air.
The elevators (four floors) were centrally located in each building and luggage carts were readily available. There was always plenty of parking space and the grounds were very nicely landscaped.
The resort staff had organized daily activities at the resort, such as board games, bingo, treasure hunts, and ice cream socials. Two pools are on site, one indoor--one outdoor, in addition to an exercise room. The hot tub was a popular spot! Discount tickets to the Branson shows were available in the lobby. DSL was available in the lobby and dial-up internet was available in the unit.
All in all, a great vacation place, which we can highly recommend.
We rate this resort a 10 out of 10!

ANGEL FIRE RESORT
Angel Fire, NM
Angel Fire Resort is a hotel, of which a portion is devoted to timeshares; and it is an Affiliate resort of Fairfield Resorts. It is a ski destination--elevation 9-10,000 feet. We occupied a "studio", which was the smaller unit of a 2 bedroom lockout. The bed was a murphy bed; and there was a pull-out sofa, bath with washer/dryer, mini-kitchen with small dining and living area.
There was a small indoor pool and hot tub, near the lobby. There was no oranized activities for guests and the on-site restaurant was closed until "ski time". The studio was clean and sufficent for the two of us, except that the carpet was dirty and stained--my poor white socks were grey and dingy. Also the hallway carpeting leading to the timeshare units were dirty and stained. DSL was available in the lobby; however, dial-up could not be used in the studio because the outlets were located behind furniture that could not be moved.
The elevators (four floors) were located at the far end of the hall from our studio and it was difficult for loading and unloading, even with the luggage carts that were available. There was a "tour desk" in the lobby; but for the 5 days we were there, we never saw a person at the desk to assist in tours. There was A/C in the lobby area of the hotel, but not in the timeshare units. There was plenty of parking space available. The grounds were adequately landscaped.
We rate this resort a 7 out of 10.
The Angel Fire area is part of the "Enchanted Circle", an area including the villages of Angel Fire, Eagle Nest, Red River, and Taos, NM; and the best part of our stay was a self-driving tour of this "circle" and a quiet time at a Vietnam Memorial, build by a local doctor to remember his son, who was killed in Vietnam.

OROFINO BY STRAIGHT CREEK
Dillon, CO
This area is also a ski destination--elevation 8-9,000 feet. We occupied a two bedroom unit, with full kitchen, 2 1/2 bath, with washer/dryer, large dining and living area. The bedrooms and two baths were located upstairs. There was electric heat, but no A/C. This is apparently an older timeshare resort and was not up to par with other resorts we have visited. The furniture and mattresses really needed to be replaced.
There was no landscaping to accent the buildings and the check-in/check-out office was located several miles away. There was no planned activities for guests. There was limited parking space available.
We rate this resort a 4 out of 10.

STONERIDGE RESORT
Blanchard, ID
Stoneridge Resort is in the beautiful "panhandle" of Idaho, about 20 miles north of Corde Alene. Our "Studio" had a king bed, pull-out sofa, bath, mini-kitchen, and small dining area. Each unit had a separate storage closet, accessed from the hallway The laundry was located at the check-in building. Thankfully, We were on the ground floor, as there were no elevators.
The resort amenities were all located very conveniently close to the resort buildings. There was an indoor pool, spa and sauna; a shuffle board area, indoor basketball court, outdoor picnic area, tennis courts and golf course. There were planned activities for guests and a complimentary hot-dog lunch on Saturday. There was limited parking. DSL was available in the lobby and dial-up was available in the units. The grounds were very nicely landscaped and there was a nice restaurant on-site.
We rate this resort a 9 out of 10.

EBAY STATS REVISITED
EBAY STATS REVISITED
More than two years ago, during the one-week eBay boycott by eBay sellers protesting significant fee increases, eBay listings fell from 19,000,000 to 12,000,000. Many eBay sellers closed their eBay stores at that time and have relocated at other fee-free or low-fee auction sites.
We have revisited the eBay stats on two other occasions, to discover the eBay listings were still hovering at the 12,000,000 level. And this week, another visit to the eBay stats reveals that eBay listings are yet again hovering, presently below the 12,000,000 figure.
The boycott is apparently still having its effect--after more than 2 1/2 years.

YAHOO GROUPS PART III - WEDGWOOD
In 1754 Josiah Wedgwood began to experiment with coloured creamware. He established his own factory in England, but often worked with others who did transfer printing. He also produced jasperware, made of white stoneware clay that had been coloured by the addition of metal oxides. Jasperware was usually ornamented with white relief portraits or Greek Classical scenes. Jasperware, his most successful innovation, was a durable unglazed ware most characteristically blue with fine white cameo figures inspired by the ancient Roman Portland Vase. Many of the finest designs were the work of the British artist John Flaxman.
Wedgwood factories to this day continue to produce many varieties of Wedgwood China and Pottery. Wedgwood collectors abound in the USA; some even say that there is more collectible Wedgwood in the USA than in England. So, naturally, there are some Yahoo Groups dedicated to the subject of Wedgwood products, old and new.
If you are a Wedgwood devotee, check out and join the following Wedgwood Yahoo Groups:

TIME SHARING IN ORLANDO
We spent two delightful weeks in the Orlando, Florida area recently at the Vacation Village at Parkway in Kissimmee. We enjoyed a two bedroom condo on the fourth floor of one of about twelve condo buildings in the complex. And they are still constructing more time share units at this location.
The swimming pools were heated and the hot tubs were refreshing. A resort shuttle was available daily to take guests to Disney and other nearby points of interest. The living room, dining area, kitchen and balcony were spacious and in pristene condition. The Master bedroom had a whirlpool tub and a spacious bath and shower.
Our particular unit was what is called a "lockout unit"; meaning, that the second bedroom is a complete separate living area, with mini kitchen, laundry, bath, bedroom, living room, dining area, and balcony. Time share owners of "lockout units" often will utilize the Master bedroom area, typically called "A" unit; and they will rent out the area "B" unit when they don't require more than one bedroom.
All of the two bedroom units at this resort also have a queeen-size pull-out sofa in each living area; which could make for a total of eight sleeping accommodations.
All in all, the Vacation Village at Parkway was a very nice resort; and we would not hesitate to spend some time there again in the future.
