AMATEUR RADIO D-STAR NEWS

Excerpt from the September issue of "Georgia Section On My Mind":

*** GREAT NEWS--- A few weeks ago, JOHN DAVIS, WB4QDX, our DEC for GA
Public Broadcasting, learned that "GigaParts was accepting proposals
for a complete D-STAR repeater system that they were giving away." As
you may know, John has been working with GA Public Broadcasting to
facilitate the installation of ham equipment at each of the GPB towers
around the state, and one of the goals is to establish a GA ARES D-Star
network by installing D-Star repeaters at each of those sites. So John
and ED WOODRICK, WA4YIH, didn't waste any time. They put together an
excellent proposal, submitted it and hoped for the best. And they GOT
the best! At the Huntsville hamfest, GigaParts announced the winner.
Because of their fine proposal, GigaParts awarded them (and US!) a
complete D-Star repeater system! It will be installed at the WVAN tower
in Pembroke, which as noted in the proposal, "will allow D-STAR voice
and data connectivity to Georgia Emergency Management Agency officials
in Atlanta, South Carolina Emergency Management Division officials in
Columbia and the FEMA Region IV office in Atlanta."

So, thank you, thank you, thank you, to John and Ed for taking the
initiative in putting together this proposal, which will result in
making a very important part of our digital network a reality. Some
people are happy to simply dream dreams, while others take steps to
actually make those dreams come true.

In other D-Star news, ROBIN CUTSHAW, AA4RC, recently installed a
Gateway at the D-Star repeater WX4GPB, which is located on top of Stone
Mountain. That system is now fully operational on 2M, 440, and 1.2 GHz.

New IRS Rules For Online Sellers

Online Sellers Face New IRS Rules

By MARTIN VAUGHAN
July 30, 2008

If you regularly sell items on online auction sites, you may find
yourself on the Internal Revenue Service's radar. Recent legislation
aims to help the IRS collect more taxes from online enterprises, many
of which either don't know about their tax obligations or are
ignoring them, according to the agency.

The provision, part of the housing rescue package that President
George W. Bush is expected to sign within days, will require PayPal
and other processors of online payments to report annual gross
receipts to the IRS for all but the smallest online merchants.

Processors' Requirement

The new reporting requirement is similar to a proposal the Bush
administration has put forward in its most recent budgets as a way to
ensure that taxes owed are being collected. It also applies to
intermediary banks that process card payments for restaurants and
brick-and-mortar retailers. Congressional tax estimators predict the
reporting change will help the IRS collect an additional $9.5 billion
in taxes owed by online and traditional businesses over the next 10
years.

The payment processors will be required to file a 1099 form for each
merchant to the IRS and to the merchant. They won't have to file for
merchants with less than $10,000 in gross sales and less than 200
transactions in a given year.

And they won't start reporting until 2011, giving the banks and the
merchants a couple years' head start to make sure everything is in
order.

Wedgwood Patrician Plate

In 1754 Josiah Wedgwood began to experiment with coloured creamware. He established his own factory, but often worked with others who did transfer printing. Josiah Wedgwood went on to produce dinnerware and pottery in many different and popular patterns. The Wedgwood Patrician is one of the more well known patterns.

This beautiful Wedgwood Patrician 7-inch plate has a brilliant floral center and is in MINT condition, with no chips, cracks, or restorations. The base markings are: WEDGWOOD MADE IN ENGLAND, with potter's marks and the numbers 11034.
