ALL ABOUT WEDGWOOD BLUE JASPERWARE

Wedgwood blue jasperware has been produced by the Wedgwood company in England for about 250 years; and I believe they ceased production of this particular product in about 2000. Other “look-a-like” companies produced imitations of Wedgwood in Canada and Japan in recent years.

Wedgwood blue jasperware comes in 4 age categories:

1950-2000 – light blue, inside and out, with white embossing; marked on the base “Made in England”, with a two-digit year number (i.e., 63, 78, 85, 90, etc.).
1910-1930 – dark blue outside, white glaze inside, with white embossing, marked on the base “Made in England”, some times with two digit numbers indicating the number of pieces fired in the kiln at a particular time (i.e., 24, 42, 30, etc.), and sometimes a letter or symbol indicating the date and/or the particular potter.
1890-1910 – dark blue outside, white glaze inside, with white embossing, marked on the base “Wedgwood England”, sometimes with two digit numbers indicating the number of pieces fired in the kiln and sometimes a letter or symbol indicating the date and/or the potter.
Prior to 1890 – dark blue outside, white glaze inside, with white embossing, marked on the base “Wedgwood”, sometimes with a letter or symbol indicating the date and/or the potter.

There are several reference books on Wedgwood that you can find at your local library; but most of them do not indicate a particular value of the items included. One recent book that indicates approximate values of the older Wedgwood pieces is Wedgwood Jasper Ware: A Shape Book and Collector's Guide (Hardcover) by Michael Herman. In the reference book , "WEDGWOOD" by Wolf Mankowitz, in the edition published in 1966 by Spring Books, London, England, on page 149 is more information on the “marks” you find on the base of each Wedgwood piece.

You will find many Wedgwood items listed in http://www.ebay.com/. Also, you can check the inventory at http://www.replacements.com/; however, keep in mind that their prices are a little on the high side.

Here are two other websites that have additional information:
http://www.thepotteries.org/features/wedgwood.htm
www.thepotteries.org/mark/w/wedgwood-date.html
You can type in “Wedgwood Jasperware” in your search bar and you will find several more sites to explore, including individual stores with pictures and prices.

Ex-Beauty Queen Stops Intruder

82-Year-Old Ex-Beauty Queen Stops Intruder by Shooting Out Tires.

Friday , April 20, 2007WAYNESBURG, Ky. — Miss America 1944 has a talent that likely has never appeared on a beauty pageant stage: She fired a handgun to shoot out a vehicle's tires and stop an intruder.

Venus Ramey, 82, confronted a man on her farm in south-central Kentucky last week after she saw her dog run into a storage building where thieves had previously made off with old farm equipment. Ramey said the man told her he would leave. "I said, 'Oh, no you won't,' and I shot their tires so they couldn't leave," Ramey said. She had to balance on her walker as she pulled out a snub-nosed .38-caliber handgun.

"I didn't even think twice. I just went and did it," she said. "If they'd even dared come close to me, they'd be 6 feet under by now." Ramey then flagged down a passing motorist, who called 911. Curtis Parrish of Ohio was charged with misdemeanor trespassing, Deputy Dan Gilliam said. The man's hometown wasn't immediately available. Three other people were questioned but were not arrested.

After winning the pageant with her singing, dancing and comedic talents, Ramey sold war bonds and her picture was adorned on a B-17 that made missions over Germany in World War II, according to the Miss America Web site. Ramey lived in Cincinnati for several years and was instrumental in helping rejuvenate Over-the-Rhine historic buildings. She returned to Kentucky in 1990 to live on her farm.

"I'm trying to live a quiet, peaceful life and stay out of trouble, and all it is, is one thing after another," she said.

GPS IMPACTED BY SOLAR RADIO BURST

GPS Significantly Impacted By Powerful Solar Radio Burst

Solar radio bursts begin with a solar flare.

by Staff Writers, Ithica NY (SPX) Apr 11, 2007

During an unprecedented solar eruption last December, researchers at Cornell University confirmed solar radio bursts can have a serious impact on the Global Positioning System (GPS) and other communication technologies using radio waves.

The findings were announced in Washington, D.C., at the first Space Weather Enterprise Forum -- an assembly of academic, government and private sector scientists focused on examining the Earth's ever-increasing vulnerability to space weather impacts.

OLD GREEN GLASS

THE COLORFUL DISHES OF THE DEPRESSION ERA CONTINUE TO BRIGHTEN TABLES TODAY

Exerpts from an article by Debra Muller Price

During the 1930's,the best things in life were free. The colorful molded-glass tableware that later became known as Depression Glass was no exception. Promotional giveaways of depression glass could be found in theaters, inside oatmeal boxes and sacks of flour; and individual pieces often sold for mere pennies at the five-and-dime stores.

Depression Glass came in a variety of patterns like Cabbage Rose, Cherry Blossom, Dogwood, Pyramid and Tea Room. The colors were a rainbow--from soft pink to sunny yellow to sky blue; but green quickly emerged as a favorite.

Although an enormous amount of Depression Glass was produced, the vast majority of pieces wound up being relegated to the attic or discarded in favor of postwar products. It reminded people of the hard times of the 1930's, and Americans were ready to put those memories out of sight.

Depression Glass was all but forgotten until the 1970's, when collectors began to rediscover its inherent charms; and Green remains a best-seller. Depression Glass looks pretty on the table and there is also a sentimental connection for many collectors, as it reminds them of their growing up time and their parents during the depression years in the U.S.A.

Yahoo Races Past Google on Mobile Search

SAN FRANCISCO:
Yahoo has introduced a new internet search system for mobile phone users that delivers locally relevant answers, a move that vaults it ahead of what rival Google now offers. Starting in the US, with international markets to follow later this year, the Sunnyvale, California-based company said it planned to take advantage of the inherently local nature of many web searches performed on phones. “We are now putting search on every mobile phone that has a browser,” said Marco Boerries, senior vice-president of Yahoo’s Connected Life business unit. “We are delivering the results consumers want with just one search, not a list of web links.”

Yahoo, which has been playing to catch up to Google in computer web search, has been making strides in recent months to overtake its rival in the fast emerging mobile web market. As networks grow faster and most handsets now come with web browsers, internet companies are moving aggressively to bring search, email, mapping and other familiar online services to phones. The mobile web promises to offer a handier way than bulky computers for many consumers to connect to the internet. OneSearch, as Yahoo calls its mobile phone service, differs from how computer web search delivers raw sets of links. Instead Yahoo serves up a list of actual information, such as news headlines, images from Yahoo’s Flickr photos site, business listings, local weather and links to other websites. more.. link to news article

Google's blog software hijacked by scammers

Google's blogger.com is being hijacked to spread malware through fakeblogs, a security vendor has warned.

According to Fortinet, Genuine-looking blogs on topics as wide-ranging as "Star Wars, school, furniture, Christmas, cars and girlfriends" are now being created to host a variety of script-initiated malware. It would be impossible for visitors to spot the danger of these sites, which now number in the hundreds, the company said. Although they look genuine, it appears that all the sites havebeen specially crafted to fool visitors.

Fortinet gives examples of the sites, including one for a supposed fan of the Honda CR450 motor car, which attempts to infect visitors with the Wonka Trojan. In another, the fake blog redirects visitors to a store front purporting to be Pharmacy Express, a phishing site that has turned up in many spam emails distributed by the Strationworm.

What they didn't show you on TV
By Michelle Malkin · March 19, 2007 10:04 AM
As promised, our full video report on The Gathering of Eagles:

Many highlights there, but take special note of the face-off at the 6:00 minute mark. As you can see, we spent most of the day covering the march on the Eagles' side of the fence. Why? Because almost all of the news camera crews we spotted--the ones that bothered to show up, that is--gathered around Cindy Sheehan and the anti-war freak show and then left. We didn't see any of them covering the long lines of Eagles waiting to get through security to visit the Vietnam Veterans Memorial. Didn't see them covering the speeches and performances by the vets and pro-military activists. Reporters mingled comfortably on the moonbat side, except to shoot drive-by photos casting pro-troops counterprotesters in a negative light. Bloggers continue to rip old media whitewashing of the historic event:

THE EAGLES SOARED

Mission Accomplished
Posted: 17 Mar 2007 09:48 PM CDT - Edited from The Gathering of Eagles Blog

What an outstanding day! The Eagles soared!

You should be very proud of your fellow veterans, families, and supporters. There’s so much to tell, and we encourage you to post your experiences in the the comments.

The first unofficial estimate of the Eagle turn-out today…30,000!
That figure may be adjusted upward as more figure are tallied during the week. Fox News reported today that the anti-war protesters had significantly less than they expected. However, they are erroneously reporting that the Eagles were there in “equal numbers”. The truth is that we outnumbered them by at least three to one!

Consider…ANSWER had a year to plan their well-publicized event and were hoping for around 100,000. They actually drew about 5,000-10,000, according to various news reports today. The Gathering of Eagles, on the other hand, had about six weeks to plan an unprecedented response - and with no advertising, no publicity, no celebrity or political endorsement, no news coverage, and no big money, we had about 30,000 boots on the ground!

The volunteers poured themselves into this historic event, and all of you who attended gave so much to be there.

AUSTRALIAN GUN LAW UPDATE

Here's a thought to warm some of your hearts...From: Ed Chenel, A police officer in Australia.

Hi Yanks, I thought you all would like to see the real figures from Down Under. It has now been 12 months since gun owners in Australia were forced by a new law to surrender 640,381 personal firearms to be destroyed by our own government, a program costing Australia taxpayers more than $500 million dollars.

The first year results are now in:
Australia-wide, homicides are up 6.2 percent,
Australia-wide, assaults are up 9.6 percent ;
Australia-wide, armed robberies are up 44 percent (yes, 44 percent)!

In the state of Victoria alone, homicides with firearms are now up 300 percent.(Note that while the law-abiding citizens turned them in, the criminals did not and criminals still possess their guns!)

While figures over the previous 25 years showed a steady decrease in armed robbery with firearms, this has changed drastically upward in the past 12 months, since the criminals now are guaranteed that their prey is unarmed. There has also been a dramatic increase in break-ins and assaults of the elderly, while the resident is at home. Australian politicians are at a loss to explain how public safety has decreased, after such monumental effort and expense was expended in "successfully ridding Australian society of guns."

You won't see this on the American evening news or hear your governor or members of the State Assembly disseminating this information. The Australian experience speaks for itself. Guns in the hands of honest citizens save lives and property and, yes, gun-control laws affect only the law-abiding citizens.

Take note Americans, before it's too late!

DON'T BE A MEMBER OF THE SILENT MAJORITY. BE ONE OF THE VOCAL MINORITY WHO WON'T LET THIS HAPPEN IN THE U.S.A
