A Blue and Gold Christmas

Christmas came a day early for Blue and Gold Stars in Pennsylvania. Dozens of Blue and Gold Star parents, as well as O.I.F./ O.E.F. veterans received a knock on the door from groups of grateful veterans. This was done with manpower and material support provided by Second Brigade Motorcycle Club, who have stood as Eagles since our inception on St Patrick's Day 2007 and proved their resolve to veterans causes again on Christmas Eve 2010.


We brought complete Christmas dinners, with turkey and all the trimmings to men and women who could not have been more appreciative. One Vietnam Gold Star mom asked, "Can I give you a donation to help others?". No mom, you can't. This was so you'd know that mom is never forgotten and we ALL KNOW mom serves with us.

Old Champagne Keeps Its Bubbles
Bottles of vintage champagne were salvaged last summer from a shipwreck that happened near Finland and Sweden between 1832 and 1844. Close to 50 sealed bottles are expected to sell for about $68,000 each. The champagne will be tasted, then recorked, then sold. The current record price for a bottle of champagne is probably $21,200 for a 1928 Krug.

Gold Star Wives Day - December 18


For the first time, America officially recognizes the contributions and dedication of military widows with ''Gold Star Wives Day.''

A Senate resolution designates Dec. 18 as a day to honor and recognize the contributions of the members of the Gold Star Wives of America Inc.


The group, with about 10,000 members, provides service, support and friendship to the widows and widowers of military personnel who died on active duty or as the result of a service-connected cause.

This Month In History - Dec 7, 1941 Pearl Harbor

Americans across the United States are holding ceremonies Tuesday to commemorate the 69th anniversary of the Japanese attack on the U.S. Naval base at Pearl Harbor in Hawaii.


USS Arizona Memorial
Hundreds of people are estimated to be gathered at Pearl Harbor, where a new visitor's center is to open at the scene of the attack, near the site where the battleship Arizona sank.
On December 7, 1941, Japanese aircraft attacked the base just before 8 a.m., Hawaii time. The attack killed more than 2,400 Americans, sank five battleships and drew the United States into World War II.

As you all know, our mission is to support the troops and veterans. That's a pretty broad mission, and this little story may go a little outside its boundaries a bit, but I think it should be told. After all, it IS Christmas, and nothing outside of family and friends and home could be more important to our military, past and present, than the freedom to observe that holiday without worrying about "offending" someone.

Southlake, TX, is near Ft. Worth, and, as you will see, is part of heartland America. Certainly one would not expect a community bank to object to a Christmas tree being erected in its lobby at no cost whatsoever, courtesy of a public-spirited businessman! Well, as it turns out, after a bit of hue and cry from the public, Chase Bank headquarters reversed itself and told Antonio Morales, the businessman, that it would allow him to erect the tree, after all. Too late; Mr. Morales is donating that particular tree to another public institution, and Chase Bank is looking pretty stupid.

Talk about political correctness run amok--this takes the cake. Let Chase Bank headquarters know how you feel! Here's their address and phone number:

First Apple Computer Sets Record


The first manufactured Apple computer, an important historic relic, sold Nov. 23, 2010, at a Christie's London auction for $213,600 (a record price for a personal computer sold at auction, according to Christie's). It was made in 1976 and sold then for $666.66 (about $2,600 in today's inflated dollars). It did not have a case, power supply, keyboard, or monitor, but it did have an assembled motherboard.  Others at the time were self-assembly kits.

The Apple-1 motherboard, No. 82, cassette board connector, keyboard interface, heatsink, and three capacitors are in the original shipping box with a letter signed by Steve Jobs. It only had 8K bytes of RAM.

This Month In History - Veterans Day

Veterans Day: This week, we celebrated Veterans Day. For some, Veterans Day represents a day off from work. For others, it’s not even a holiday…it’s just another weekday. And for yet others, the day recalls a passing awareness of significance, but not much beyond that.


But for the true American patriots among us, the day evokes a very deep and personal reverence. It combines elements of pride and sadness, and—always—respect. It is a sacred day, set aside to remember service, honor, bravery, duty, and sacrifice for the greater good. It is a day to remember those who served and are serving, so that we may enjoy the life and the freedom we have today.


For all those brave men and women that Veterans Day honors, we say “thank you” for your sacrifice and your service to our great country.

Timesharing at Vacation Club International


This week we are highlighting Vacation Club International Timeshare Resort.
Vacation Club International is a quiet lakefront resort located in the Land Between The Lakes region at Canton, KY., approximately 1 hour 30 minutes northwest of Nashville, TN.



Vacation Club International is a small complex of 2 bedroom condos with full kitchen and dining area. The condos have a screened porch off the dining area for your enjoyment. Each units sleep 6 persons. Amenities on property include outdoor pool, indoor hot tub, game room, and VCR/DVD cassette players.  The resort has a Saturday check in procedure. 
The crowning feature of this resort is its location, fronting on the beautiful Lake Barkley, one of the two lakes which form the Land Between the Lakes.  A great location for a vacation of boating and water activities.

The Tupperware story is the story of an ordinary product sold in an extraordinary way. It is the story of a wonderful re-direction of focus and courage to do things differently. Had this business gone the same way as other normal business went, this too would have bitten the dust in about 5-10 years of existence after making some profit, some name, some niche in the market, and then die of a natural death.

The Tupperware product was then, as it is now a product of a very high quality. The plastic was excellent; the container models were and are till today extremely well researched and designed to give the best possible way of storing in the minimum possible space.

The product is bought and sold through the world, and today it is recognized as one of the most successful business stories in the world. A lot many other businesses modeled their style of marketing and selling on the Tupperware model and they succeeded, too.

Various articles of personal adornment decorated with plaques of ceramic ware made by Josiah Wedgwood & Sons Ltd. Such articles (including finger rings, medallions, brooches, pendants, buckles, clasps, earrings) were often made by Josiah Wedgwood (1730-95) of jasper or black basalted earthenware, sometimes as a cameo or intaglio set in a metal mount.

The mounts were of gold, silver or marcasite, or of cut steel frequently made by Matthew Boulton of Birmingham, c. 1790.

Other articles which have been made of, or decorated with, Wedgwood jasper include beads, combs, chatelaines, and scent bottles. The ground of the jasper ware is of various colours, e.g. pale blue, lilac, sage-green, yellow, and black.

Josiah Wedgwood II made, c. 1812-22, some medallions of bone China that were mounted as brooches.

The Rubik's Cube



The Rubik's Cube is a 3-D mechanical puzzle invented in 1974 by Hungarian sculptor and professor of architecture ErnÅ‘ Rubik. Originally called the "Magic Cube", the puzzle was licensed by Rubik to be sold by Ideal Toys in 1980 and won the German Game of the Year special award for Best Puzzle that year.  As of January 2009, 350 million cubes have sold worldwide making it the world's top-selling puzzle game. It is widely considered to be the world's best-selling toy.

In a classic Rubik's Cube, each of the six faces is covered by 9 stickers, among six solid colours (traditionally white, red, blue, orange, green, and yellow). A pivot mechanism enables each face to turn independently, thus mixing up the colours. For the puzzle to be solved, each face must be a solid colour. Similar puzzles have now been produced with various numbers of stickers, not all of them by Rubik. The original 3×3×3 version celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2005.

This Month In History: Washington's Farewell Address


Nov. 2, 1783: Gen. George Washington delivers his “Farewell Address to the Army” near Princeton, N.J., in which he refers to the Continental Army as “one patriotic band of brothers.”

Of his soldiers, whom he says displayed “invincible fortitude in action,” Washington offers his “prayers to the God of Armies,” adding that “may the choicest of Heaven's favors both here and hereafter attend those, who under the divine auspices have secured innumerable blessings for others.”
